Physical vs. Logical Recovery We specialize in physical recovery. Physical crashes typically involve damaged or defective parts within the hard drive. Microsoft Outlook limits the size of Personal Folders, PST files and offline folders; OST files to 2GB. When the size of your offline folder (.ost file) or personal folder (PST file) exceeds 2 gigabytes (GB) data corruption may occur. You may start to see frequent errors and eventually not be able to access your emails or contacts at all. RAID System Failures Although Redundant Array Of Independent Disks or RAID technology has been available for many years its prevalence has become increasingly significant due to larger operating systems, more robust applications, and a myriad of graphic and sound storage requirements. An increasing number of computers now ship with more than one hard drive and most are in some king of a RAID array. MiS recovers and repairs inaccessible data from nearly all forms of RAID systems, workstation, servers and external RAID enclosures. If you have a RAID array with a failed disk it is important to remember NOT to run chkdsk or scandisk. Such built-in operating system utilities are not data recovery tools. Their purpose is to attempt to align certain files in the system so they can be accessed by the operating system. In order to achieve this goal they often delete indexing data, reassign data pointers and destroy data on the drive that may have become ‘raw’ due to a failure. RAIDs are especially susceptible to these utilities because of the striping and redundancy technologies they employ. If your hard drive is physically or mechanically damaged you may have only one chance to successfully recover data from it. Trying to repair a failed hard drive yourself or even sending it to an unqualified recovery lab can cause irreparable damage to the media of the drive, making data recover nearly impossible. If you hear any unusual noises coming from your hard drive do not attempt to run any sort of recovery software on it. Unusual sounds such as clicking, grinding, loud humming or no noise at all are some of the indicators or physical/mechanical failure and that cannot be repaired by software alone. Do not try to remove the hard drive and open it, hit it, move it or jar it. We recommend turning off your computer and contacting a professional for advice and assistance.
